Margate artist Anthony Giles opens new exhibition

Walpole Bay by Anthony Giles

Margate artist Anthony Giles has opened his latest exhibition today (September 23) at the Lombard Street Gallery.

Working with oil paints, contemporary landscape artist Anthony captures the atmosphere, light and colour of the area. Starting work ‘en plein air’ the pieces are finished in his studio in Margate.

The exhibition, Limited Focus, consists of new works by Anthony.

He said: “ As a landscape artist I regularly limit my view to select a much smaller slice of the scene that is visible to me. Gradually reducing portions of a larger subject through a limited focus gives an entirely different viewpoint that leads me towards abstracting a slice of that same view.

“My brush and palette knife strokes become multi-functional, assigning colour, texture and movement, as well as describing subject and form. As these brushstrokes become increasingly vigorous and confident, greater attention is brought to the painting surface, recognisable forms begin to dissolve and abstraction is introduced.”

Anthony has exhibited at many prestigious exhibitions both in the UK and abroad and has appeared on Sky Arts ‘Landscape Artist of the Year’ Anthony is featured in Who’s Who In Art 2016/17 and has recently been featured in Paint & Draw magazine.
