Kent Police is investigating the cause of a fire which took place in the cellar of The Victoria restaurant in Hardres Street, Ramsgate, on Monday, November 13.

Fire, police and ambulance crews were called to the four-storey building, which also contains flats, after the blaze broke out.

Several people were treated for smoke inhalation and residents of the flats had to be evacuated.

Police have now confirmed an investigation is taking place into the cause of the fire and revealed that disused cannabis cultivation equipment was found by fire crews at the scene.

A police spokesman said: “The cause of the fire is being investigated and while fire crews were at the scene evidence of a non-recent, disused cannabis cultivation was uncovered.”

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
