Jesus Christ Superstar comes to the Granville

Ben Hoeness takes the lead role

The isle’s award-winning Stage Door Theatre Company is producing Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Tim Rice’s musical Jesus Christ Superstar for a performance in Ramsgate.

Superstar has been a global phenomenon for over 40 years since it exploded onto the musical scene in 1971 – stunning audiences and changing the face of musical theatre forever. The show will be performed at the Granville Theatre from April 12-15, 7.30 pm.

The role of Jesus is played by Ben Hoenes and Judas by Joe Dryden and Liam Ferrier. Mary is played by Kayleigh Stevens-Keatley, Mary Peskett and Heidi Moran, Annas by Drayson Goldfinch and Lucy Taylor, Caiaphas by Mike Deller, Herod by Maverick Hayre and Pilate by Reece Heatley. They are supported by the Superstar ensemble of over 25 performers.

Artistic director, Heidi Moran said: “This show provides challenges on many levels for the performers but we are so lucky to have a talented and experienced cast who have worked together to produce a brilliant show.”

The musical is a timeless work set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events accompanied by a ground-breaking musical score. As compelling today as it was at its inception over 40 years ago, featuring legendary songs from I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Everything’s Alright, and Gethsemane through to, of course, Superstar.

Musical director Edward Greenhalgh said: “The cast have been rehearsing since January and rehearsals have been progressing well. The musical score is a really challenge not just for the principals but also for the ensemble as it is through sung, however the cast are doing a fantastic job.”
