At the first meeting of the new Inner Wheel year President Barbara Copper welcomed those attending and speaker Tracy Lovatt from the Strode Park Foundation. A minute’s silence was then held for Betty Cant one of the longest serving members of the club who sadly passed away in August aged 94.
After an excellent meal, Tracy Lovett, head of fundraising from the Strode Park Foundation, gave a very interesting and informative talk outlining how the charity provides specialist care for children and adults with disabilities. Strode Park, which is in Herne Bay and was founded in 1947, provides residential and day care in beautiful surroundings and is totally reliant on donations.
The charity also provides holiday accommodation in three bungalows within the grounds. A recent addition is a hydrotherapy pool. Patrons of the charity include Terry Waite and Amanda Cottrell. Money is now being raised for a sensory and soft playroom for disabled children.
Forthcoming events will include a fashion show, a craft afternoon and, at the next meeting in October, the speaker will be Lyn Calender from Operation Sunshine. In November there will be a Bubble and Squeak evening at Joy Adams’ house.
The Inner Wheel Club of Margate is actively encouraging new members and would like applications for membership. The club is a great opportunity to make new friends and enjoy an interesting social calendar whilst raising money for charity. This year’s nominated charities are the Strode Park Foundation and Operation Sunshine.
Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at Northdown House in Cliftonville.
