Homes plan for land by Manston Tesco site

The outline application is for 48 homes

Planning committee members at Thanet council will discuss an application to build homes on land off Manston Road in Ramsgate.

The site, next to The Beacon building and adjacent to Manston Tesco, has been earmarked for 48 properties.

The land, which has traditional been used by the circus for its Thanet performances but is also often used by Travellers, is previously undeveloped.

The outline application from Smart Planning Ltd proposes 12 one-bed flats, 10 two-bed flats, 10 two-bed houses, 12 three-bed houses and 4 four-bed houses.  Fourteen of the properties will be ‘affordable housing.’

Access to the site is from Manston Road. A single access into the site is proposed, along with a footpath adjoining the northern and eastern boundary of the site.

The developer will be expected to make contributions of £129,250.00 towards the Ramsgate Primary Free School; £67,254.30 towards Royal Harbour Secondary School and £2,304.76 towards book stock at the local library.

A contribution of £42,000 for upgrading of play equipment in Princess Margaret Avenue, is also required.

A report to councillors recommends they “defer and delegate the application for approval.”

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 20 at the council offices from 7pm.

  1. Defer and delegate is a cop out for councillors too frightened of the backlash. Of course this will be passed as we already know the comments. If we don’t allow this application we will…..etc, etc. We have a very weak set of councillors who bow not only to the leader of TDC but also the chief planning officer for TDC.
