Homes and a micropub could be built at the old Dane Valley Arms site

The Dane Valley Arms attracted vandalism

An application has been submitted to build homes and a micropub on the site of the former Dane Valley Arms in Margate.

KSD Group Ltd & Coldunell Ltd are asking for permission to create 10 flats, seven houses, ground floor micropub and associated parking at the site in Dane Valley Road.

The pub was demolished  in December 2016 after Thanet council served notice due to its unsafe condition.

Fires and vandalism at the eyesore property had been a constant problem since its closure in 2012.

Thanet District Council served the demolition order in September 2016. Owners, Dane Valley Arms Limited, were given a period of eight weeks to carry out the work. They failed to carry that out so TDC stepped in and rechardged the company for the work.

The development proposal provides a mix of family houses and self-contained flats and there will be discussions for a Housing Association to take on long term use of the units.

The housing number is reduced from a proposal submitted in 2015 for a 4 storey building to provide 28 self contained flats with underground parking and a commercial unit at ground floor.

Documents submitted with the application state: “The ground floor corner of the block of flats will provide a new micropub to serve the community. The main entrance will be facing Arlington Gardens but large, full height glazing has been included on both aspects of the building within the micro pub. A basement area will be dug into the ground to provide storage facilities associated with the running of the facility.”

Dane Valley councillor Gary Hillman said: ““We fought to have the DVA demolished and welcome any new developments that enhance the area. It will be up to residents and planning committee to decide if this has the right combination.”

A decision has not yet been made.
