Hawaiian shirts and darts at the ready for a Thanet tournament in memory of popular player Tommy Brewster.
Tommy, from Ramsgate, died of a heart attack on March 14 last year, just one day before his 74th birthday.
The well-known Provident and Christmas club collector was a talented player on the Thanet circuit, playing mainly for the Red Arrow Club and Northwood Club in later life but for both Ramsgate and Margate leagues over his lifetime. Tommy often stood out in a crowd due to his love of wearing bright, Hawaiian shirts.
Friend and tournament organiser Andy Brooks said: “Everybody knew Tommy, he was always laughing and joking and wearing his Hawaiian shirts. We are expecting a big turnout. It is Thanet players only, past and present, but lots of people will also be coming to watch and to remember Tommy.
“We are expecting about 40-60 women players and 80-100 men players.
“The money raised will go to the British Heart Foundation.”
The Tom’s Trophy event takes place at the Red Arrow Club, off Newington Road, on Saturday (March 17). Doors open at 10am, registration before 11,45am, draw at noon.
There will also be a raffle.
Entry in the tournament is a minimum donation of £5.
Andy said: “We have had some really good donations from local businesses for raffle prizes. We are hoping to raise £1,500- £2,000. All in Thanet are welcome, Hawaiian shirts are optional!”
