The peace pilgrimage in Ramsgate

Hare Krishna monks with a temple on wheels pulled by two bullocks have reached the final Thanet pits stop of their journey.

The six day pilgrimage for peace set off from Ramsgate  yesterday (August 20) and is due to arrive in Canterbury on Saturday ( August 25). It arrived in Margate today.

The procession includes music, food, philosophy and dance. It will be received by officials from Canterbury Cathedral at the end of a week-long, walking ‘Padayatra’ festival.

The pilgrimage was received by Mayor of Ramsgate Trevor Shonk at the East Cliff bandstand on Monday with a full Vedic ceremony taking place to mark the beginning of the pilgrimage. It also stopped at Broadstairs bandstand yesterday.

The event is also being held to promote a new Margate Mantra Lounge, a free community group being run at the Beet Bar cafe in the Old Town.
