Get an authentic taste of New York at the Brooklyn Bar and Diner in Broadstairs

Gourmet New York burgers, beer and more on the menu at Brooklyn Bar and Diner

Locally sourced ingredients with an American twist are top of the menu at the Brooklyn Bar and Diner in Broadstairs.

The High Street diner is the home of authentic New York style gourmet burgers and hotdogs with all the trimmings, including specially shipped in Brooklyn beer.

It is run by 25-year-old Courtney Adams, who has been in the restaurant business since the age of 17, and his partner Milli Miller, also experienced in the hospitality trade.

Courtney took the helm two years ago and says his focus is very much on offering great food at reasonable prices.

There are some 11 different burgers, including the Brooklyn Special Burger with secret Brooklyn sauce, beef patty, crispy bacon, house smoked cheese, gherkin, onions, tomato and Brooklyn mayonnaise or The Challenger – a mountain meal of two beef patties, house smoked cheese, bacon, onion ring, tomato, ketchup, lettuce and garlic mayonnaise.

There are also veggie options – with vegan bun – including one made with Jackfruit.

Courtney said: “It is a Thai fruit similar in style to a peach. When it is young it is savoury and sweet hen it is mature. We buy the young fruit, it’s shredded and cooked in barbecue sauce so it is then pulled pork style.”

For fussy eaters, or those who want a king-sized treat, there is the option to build your own burger.

Hotdogs are also a popular menu item with the choice of the classic or the “Hotter Dog” with that secret Brooklyn sauce.

Add to that a multitude of side dish choices, including fries, toppings, Portobello mushrooms and more and you won’t leave Brooklyn’s hungry!

And if you are looking for something to wash it down with – well, there are plenty of options from the Brooklyn beer to cocktails and even alcohol-infused milkshakes.

Amongst the 10 staff who work at Brooklyn’s is newly qualified chef Connor Dickson.

Connor has been at Brooklyn’s for a little over a year, working whilst training at East Kent College. He is now one of three full-time chefs at the diner.

Courtney said: “We want to contribute to the local economy as well as offering great food and do that by buying local as much as we can, including Kentish meat, and helping local people into work and careers.”

Brooklyn Bar & Diner is at 23 High Street, Broadstairs, and is open from midday to 9pm every day. It is also available on Just Eat if you want to enjoy a taste of New York in your own home.
