Fire and Frost II opens at the New Kent Art Gallery

The exhibition opens today

Artists from across Kent will have their work on show at the New Kent Art Gallery ‘Fire and Frost II’ winter exhibition.

Carl Scarlett, who recently held an exhibition at the gallery, Angela Carpenter, Sally Childs and Charlie Russell, will see their work on show alongside some snow-covered local rural scenes by well-known Ramsgate artist Mike Samson, and stunning Thanet coastal sunrises by John Hughes – just a few of the wonderful local works of art that will be on display.

Curator Karen Hiscock-Lawrence, who has been an illustrator for many years, has brought together works from all genres to join her and business partner Brian Hodgson’s pieces..

She said: “This annual, pre-Christmas exhibition, aims to bring together as much variety of work as possible to enchant and delight visitors.

“We are welcoming some of our regular artists as well as new faces, as we continue to encourage as many local artists and makers to show their fabulous creations each year.

“With two weeks to go before Christmas Day, there will be plenty of inspiration for gifts in the gallery, all of which will be truly unique and hand crafted by local artists.

“In a world of mass produced, plastic throw away items, it is wonderful to see something individual that can be cherished forever.

“This season we have hand cast pewter, fused glass panels, raku ceramics, and beautiful Christmas tree decorations for under £20 as well as fine silver jewellery, oil paintings and sculptural works.

“Supporting our local creative community is really important and we have been overwhelmed by the wonderful feedback and support we have received in return from artists and customers alike.

“If you are stuck for Christmas gift ideas, or simply enjoy viewing locally produced arts and crafts, take a look at the exhibition which runs through the Christmas and New Year period.

“We would like to thank them and wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and New Year.”

The exhibition runs from Tuesday December 12 through to Tuesday January 7, and on Saturday December 23 the owners invite visitors to enjoy “a glass of something lovely and a mince pie.”

The times of the event are Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 5pm and Sunday 11am – 4pm with further information available from https://www.newkentart.com/ and Facebook https://www.facebook.com/NewKentArt/
