Emergency crews called to Birchington bungalow fire

Fire crews have attended a house blaze in Birchington.

Four engines were reported to be on the scene of the fire at a bungalow in Wilbrough Road at around 5.30pm today (March 31).

There were no injuries but the British Red Cross was called in to assist.

The fire is believed to have started in the double garage before spreading to the main house and working its way into the roof space.

Crews used a main jet, hose reel jet, fogspike and breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.

The cause of the fire isn’t yet known. The property has been left severely damaged by fire, smoke and water.
