Drug dealer who tried to hide under the bed in Ramsgate raid is jailed

Jailed: Christopher Bellot

A drug dealer who tried to hide under the bed when officers raided a property in Ramsgate on New Year’s Eve has been jailed for seven years.

Kent Police visited a property in Adelaide Gardens in Ramsgate following information that drugs were being dealt there.

When police walked in the house, they could smell cannabis and in one of the bedrooms they found 35-year-old Christopher Bellot. While being searched, he reacted suspiciously, including trying to hide under the bed.

Shortly after, police found a small bag under the bed which contained around 80 wraps of cocaine, and further wraps were found in Bellot’s pockets.

They also found three mobile phones and additional sim cards, as well as items associated with drug dealing.

On one of the phones, officers found a text message boasting about the successful drug-dealing carried out by Bellot in just 24 hours.

Following a trial at Canterbury Crown Court, Bellot, of Windsor Street, London, was found guilty of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply and was sentenced on Monday 22 October.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Pete Frampton said: “Bellot was using the property as a base to run his own drug dealing enterprise and no doubt was looking forward to some bumper criminal business opportunities for New Year’s Eve.

“Unfortunately for him, our officers’ determination and hard work to tackle any signs of drugs misuse and supply in the area meant he was arrested and would instead be spending the New Year thinking about facing the courts.

‘”Drug dealing is illegal, it can cause detrimental effects to a community and we would urge anyone who suspects drug dealing is taking place in their street to contact police as your reports can help us bring these criminals to justice.”
