A driver who injured two school-age passengers and suffered ‘life-changing’ damage himself after he crashed his car in Thanet has been jailed.
Daniel John Wisdom of Brockmans Close, Minster, admitted charges of careless driving, driving whilst disqualified, no insurance and no MOT when he appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court.
He was sentenced today (May 4) to 120 days in prison.
At 1.45am on Saturday 17 September, 2016, Wisdom crashed a grey MG ZR into the wall of a beauty salon in Tothill Street at the junction of High Street, Minster, causing thousands of pounds of damage.
One passenger, aged 15, was taken to a local hospital while the other passenger, 14-year-old Hartsdown pupil Liam Owen, was rushed to a London hospital with a collapsed lung, shattered pelvis and four fractures to his face which needed reconstructive surgery.
PC Christopher Oliver-Jones, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: ‘This collision had a serious impact, not only on the casualties, which included the driver himself, but also on the local community and in particular the local business which has suffered considerable loss due to the damage caused to their property.
“The jail sentence sends out a strong message that drivers will be held accountable for their actions and there are serious consequences for careless driving and driving whilst disqualified.”
