Emergency crews were called to a fire at the former Laleham Gap school site in Margate tonight (November 15).

Residents report road closures were put in place by the site in Northdown Park Road.

It is the second time the vacant site has been hit by fire. In June a fire was started in a disused portacabin on school grounds. It was completely destroyed. The blaze also spread, causing further damage to two further portacabins and an area of grass. Kent Police investigated that incident as a suspected arson.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “We were called to a fire in a derelict building on the site. Three engines attended and used three main jets and one hydrant to deal with the fire.”

The crew was called at 7.05pm and left the site at 8.30pm.
