Court orders former Margate fraudster to give up Thai property to pay victims

Canterbury Crown Court

A Thai property owned by a convicted fraudster must be surrendered so that he can repay more than £10,000 to victims under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Dominic Nardone, 41 and formerly of Westfield Road in Margate, was convicted of fraud in August 2016 following an investigation by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

He is currently serving a six year sentence after at least 30 victims were defrauded into using his services to invest in the stock market.

Instead of investing the money, Nardone used it to fund a luxurious lifestyle and purchase property in Thailand.

On January, 19, following a hearing at Canterbury Crown Court, it was ruled that he must repay a total of £11,5000, with £9,500 of that coming from equity for a property he owns in Thailand.

He must pay the money within three months or risk an increased prison sentence.

The Judge determined that the £11,500 will be paid directly to Nardone’s victims, via a trustee.

Detective Inspector Annie Clayton, from the Serious Economic Crime Unit, said: “It is entirely appropriate that Nardone will not get to reap the rewards of crime when his custodial sentence is served.

“This case shows that our investigations often do not stop at the point of conviction, we will use the full extent of the law to seek justice for victims.”
