Cars being diverted at Westbrook following police car and van crash

Emergency services are at the scene of a crash between a police car and a flatbed van in Westbrook this afternoon (January 24)

Witnesses say Canterbury Road at Westbrook is currently blocked and traffic approaching from Margate is being redirected down Hartsdown Road.

A police officer was injured in the incident and has been taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

The incident took place at around 1pm.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Officers are currently in Canterbury Road, Margate, following a collision involving a police car and a van at around 1pm. The road is closed by Westbrook.

“A police officer has reported injuries and been taken to a local hospital.”

A spokesman for Secamb added: “Two ambulance crews were sent to the scene. One patient, understood to be a police officer, was taken to the William Harvey Hospital with injuries not thought to be serious.”

UPDATE: (4.50pm) Margate bound lane now reported to be open
