Broadstairs thug who pointed imitation gun at ex-girlfriends head is jailed

Collett has been jailed

A thug from Broadstairs who left a woman fearing for her life after he pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her has been jailed for 20 months.

Michael Collett, 31, of Norman Road, forced his way into the home of a former partner in Margate on Monday 8 June 2016 and threatened to kill her.

Collett pointed an imitation firearm at the woman through the stairway banister and demanded that she speak to him.

As the woman tried to leave the house, Collett stood in her way and pointed the gun to her head. He also sent threatening text messages to the woman on Monday 19 June 2016, where he made threats to her life and his own.

Collett pleaded guilty to possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear and threats to kill when he appeared at Canterbury Crown Court on Tuesday 7 March.

He also pleaded guilty to sending malicious communications and possessing controlled Class B drugs.

Collett was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday 24 April.

Investigating officer PC Neil Carroll said: “This was a very scary ordeal for the victim who has shown a great deal of bravery in coming forward and reporting this to the police.

“We are pleased that Collett has received time in prison for his actions and we hope this encourages other people who have experienced similar forms of abuse to come forward.”
