Authors will enter a literary ‘Dragons’ Den’ at Margate Bookie festival

Catherine Spencer and James Cook

A literary ‘Dragons’ Den‘, organised by crowdfunding publisher Unbound, is taking place this month as part of the annual Margate Bookie festival.

On Saturday 19 August at Turner Contemporary, six authors will each have five minutes to pitch their book. You’ll hear everything from fiction to memoir, poetry to history, and as well as voting for your favourite at the end of the night you can pledge your support to get it published.

Amongst the authors pitching is Catherine Spencer (pictured), the former rugby union player who captained England at the 2010 Women’s Rugby World Cup. Her memoir Mud, Maul, Mascara: How I Led My Country, and Lived to Tell the Tale is the first of its kind by a female rugby player

She will be joined by:

Irfan Shah – The Shadow Traps

Robert Welbourn – Ideal Angels

John-Michael O’Sullivan – The Replacement Girl

Alys Earl – Time’s Fool

Special guest for the night is James Cook (pictured) who is ‘fully funded’ for his book Memory Songs which will be published in 2018.

Tickets are £5 and include a £5 voucher to pledge against a book of your choice on the Unbound site. Get your tickets today.
