Westwood Cross is requesting donations of new underwear for Thanet’s homeless this winter.
The Thanet shopping centre aims to collect 100 pairs of socks and pants for The Gap Project, Westwood Cross’ charity of the year. The Gap Project will distribute the items to homeless people, who they provide with support, warmth, showers and food.
The Gap Project is a Broadstairs charity that works to relieve poverty, improve family relationships and advance educational opportunities for disadvantaged and vulnerable people in Thanet.
‘Impressive’
Francesca Donovan, centre manager at Westwood Cross, said: “We launched ‘Spare a Pair’ this winter to collect new socks and pants for The Gap Project to distribute to the homeless people who use their service.
“The response from Westwood Cross guests so far has been really impressive with some people choosing to leave additional items such as hats and gloves to help keep Thanet’s homeless warm this winter.
“Should anyone wish to make a donation they can leave it in the Spare a Pair collection box located at Guest Services. Each gesture is extremely appreciated and will have a big impact on our local vulnerable and homeless communities during the winter months.”
‘Generosity’

The Gap Project, based at Queens Road Baptist church, provides invaluable support services for many groups including deprived families, young people with a lack of opportunities, the homeless and insecurely housed, isolated older people and those with special needs, mental health issues and long-term conditions.
