A service will be held next month to remember a Birchington dad and stepdad of 11.

Former carer and factory worker Peter Meakin died on August 16 after losing his battle against cancer.

Mr Meakin, 64, was also a grandad and step-grandad to a brood of 32 and a massive Leicester football club fan.

Stepdaughter Tina Robson said: “He loved football and was a Leicester fan, where he was born.

“He was funny, a joker, and loved being with everyone. He was a big part of my life.”

Mr Meakin leaves behind wife Lyn and his children, stepchildren and grandchildren.

Mr Meakin’s funeral will be held at Margate Crematorium on September 6 at 12.15pm.

The procession will leave from Cornford Road, Birchington, at 11.50am.

Those going to the service are asked to wear bright colours or football shirts. All who knew Mr Meakin are welcome to attend.

A wake will be held at The Hussar pub, Canterbury Road, Garlinge.
