A Ramsgate dental practice will be shutting in March

Church Hill Dental Practice in Ramsgate will shut next March.

Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust’s dental services are commissioned to provide care at the practice, which has some 8,000 people on the books.

But the contract ends on March 31, 2018, and will not be renewed.

The practice run in Sandwich will continue.

‘Working with other dentists’

An NHS England South East spokesperson said: “The provider of services at Church Hill Dental Practice in Ramsgate has informed us that they are not in a position to provide general dental services at the surgery  after 31 March 2018.

“We will be working with other dental practices with a view to increasing their capacity to care for local patients, while we are in the process of assessing the longer term dental needs of people in east Kent, in order to inform the longer term development of services.

“New Street Dental Practice in Sandwich, which is run by the same provider, will be continuing to provide NHS dental services.”

Commissioned

Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust’s dental services say they are working to find alternative dentist care and are writing to all Church Hill patients to advise them of the situation.

Dental Services Clinical Director for East Kent Michelle Forbes said: “We were commissioned to provide dental services at Churchill Dental Practice by NHS England and we will continue to do this until 31 March 2018 – the end of our five-year contract.

“We are working with NHS England to make sure patients have alternative local provision.  We will, of course, continue to provide safe and effective care for all patients using our service at Church Hill dental practice until the end of March.

“We are a large dental organisation and we will do our very best to redeploy our colleagues who work at the practice.’’

  1. This is a great pity and comes as a shock to all patients registered at the practice including me. The whole team at the practice has been marvelous, and I hope that whatever has led to this sorry pass will be overcome for the mutual benefit of all concerned. First class NHS dentists are worth their weight in gold, not least to those of us who are enjoying a robust and healthy retirement.
