A taste of Argentinian street food is on offer at a bar and kitchen in Ramsgate.

A range of empanadas – a stuffed pastry baked or fried in The Americas – are now on offer at 26 Harbour Street.

The bar and kitchen is run by events producer Ben Morton, wife Tracey and cook Yasoda.

The couple, who bought the building last May, are using locally sourced and foraged ingredients together with Yasoda’s South American cooking history to launch the new range.

The wholesome street food comes with delicious, colourful dipping sauces of chipotle chilli, chimichurri (garlic and parsley) and horseradish.

Empanadas come in different flavours – beef, chicken, spinach and feta – and the trio are also working on a vegan recipe.

The team launched the range this month after they were invited to provide a food and drinks reception at Turner Contemporary with the Prince’s Trust. The trust gives vital mentoring support to young people in Thanet through their network of volunteers.

Dad-of-three Ben said: “We wanted to create a street food that wasn’t deep fried or bread-based but that was quick and delicious to munch on and even worth hanging around for and enjoying with a drink.

“It is a food that is very easy to grab without being fussy. We wanted something different and interesting that people can eat with the different flavours.

“So far we’re getting good feedback from customers and tweaking the recipes to create the perfect empanada.”

26 Harbour Street is currently running a launch offer of 3 for a fiver. If the street food takes off Ben,48, hopes to expand to a takeout and delivery service.
