A community kitchen in Thanet will be running a pop up takeaway in Margate this week.

Our Kitchen On The Isle Of Thanet aims to get people in the district eating healthily at affordable prices by providing meals made with local ingredients from as little as 70p.

Meals  range from 70p, £1.40 and chef’s specials at around £4.

All are low in salt, sugar and saturated fats, concentrating on using local veg and fruit.

The kitchen is the creation of Sharon Goodyer, a former head teacher and businesswoman.

The 66-year-old, from Ramsgate, said: “Our Kitchen is about working with all the food producers in Thanet. They will cook wholesome, convenient and affordable meals.

“People are eating convenience meals and take-aways that aren’t good for them and make them ill. We want to get together with food producers so that Thanet can feed itself better.”

The kitchen is based at the former Cliffsend village store, where meals are created and packaged.

Sharon, 66, and managing director Claire Dillon, 38, aim to bring the food to the community in places that are easy to reach.

The pop up on Thursday (February 1) will be at the FeelGood factory, at 80 High Street, Margate. The venue is run by Your Leisure which has teamed up with  Our Kitchen and Ageless Thanet to promote better living.

The pop up will be open from 5pm to 7pm.

The menu:

Pasta with bolognaise sauce

Pasta with fresh tomato and basil sauce

Root vegetable spicy tomato tagine

Garlic bread and a red cabbage beetroot , carrot and  onion slaw

Cost £3 per person.

Our Kitchen is also selling meals today (January 30) from 2pm-4pm at the Quartedeck in Zion Place, Cliftonville.
