Police have taped off part of a road in Margate after a hole some one metre wide and five metres deep appeared.

The ‘sinkhole’ – described as a void by Kent Highways – appeared on the side of Millmead Road at the junction with Irvine Drive, at about 1.40pm today (October 31). The road is closed between that junction and Millmead Avenue.

Police have closed off the road and highways workers are en-route.

A highways spokesman said to expect delays in the area and approach with caution.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called at 1.45pm  to a report of a sinkhole in Millmead Road, Margate.

“Officers are attending the scene to assist Kent Highways Services.”

  1. How long will the road be closed? Does anybody know what route the 32 bus is taking, there is no information on the bus stop. Many elderly, disabled and parents with young children rely on this service and are unable to walk too far to another stop. Road closed since Saturday but no work being done.
