A man has suffered head and body injuries after being assaulted in Margate.

At around 6.20pm yesterday (May 19), police officers were called to Marine Gardens near Albert Terrace to a report of a disturbance involving a group of people. A man in his 50s had been assaulted during the incident.

The suspects reportedly left the scene on foot towards the High Street.

The victim suffered several injuries to his head and torso and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers attended the scene and enquiries into the ‘serious assault’ are ongoing. Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Inspector Mat Scott said: “We would like to thank those witnesses who have already come forward. The assault took place near to the seafront and is a relatively busy area of town.

“We ask anyone who might have seen something which could help our investigation and hasn’t yet spoken to an officer, to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 19-1004.”

  1. Hmmm . . . was this a “scrap” amongst the group of people who spend most of theirs days gathered together in Marine Gardens, consuming copious amounts of alcohol from cans and bottles ?

Why the need for witnesses ? There is a CCTV camera on the corner which should have been monitoring the event as it took place and recorded the whole of the incident . . .
