A farewell party has been organised for the Belgian Cafe

A party has been arranged to mark the expected closure of The Belgian Café on Ramsgate sea front this weekend – despite management not confirming whether the bar is shutting permanently or temporarily.

The Harbour Parade pub, known for its choice of Belgian beers and food including the ‘famed’ pizzas, has been open since 2000 but business has slowed since the opening of Wetherspoon’s Royal Victoria Pavilion last August.

The bar, which is operated by Belgium Boho Ltd, is expected to close on February 11 or 12, according to staff and regular customers.

Belgium Boho Ltd has not confirmed whether the closure is permanent, saying a firm decision is yet to be made.

A farewell party has now been organised by members of belly dancing groups in Thanet, headed up by the Sparkles group.

In an event posting they say: “A very fond and sad farewell to this most bohemianly lovely venue The Belgian Bar that us belly dancers have all been lucky enough to perform at for many years.

“Every belly dancer on Planet Thanet and beyond will be paying tribute to this great venue so come along and support us all, it’s a free show, and is very much an emergency and impromptu show due to its quick closure this weekend.

The party starts at 8.30pm on Friday (February 9).

  1. Ordered a round of Belgian beers in this place a few years ago. It would have been cheaper to take the Eurostar to Brussels and bought them from there. Ridiculously over priced so never went back as we was left feeling we had been ripped off.

  2. couldnt get down the old place as im smashed up in hospital[motorbike]but hope its not the end of an era,stuart675.
