Children and staff from Birchington CE Primary School will celebrate an officla opening of their new school block on Monday, July 17.
The new Rossetti Building will be blessed and officially opened by the Bishop of Dover.
The block has six new classrooms, a studio, playground, new school entrance, car park, offices and meeting rooms.
Kent County Council has funded the£2.3million expansion which means the school will eventually be able to increase pupil numbers from just over 400 to 630.
‘Wonderful addition’
Head teacher Kath Barham said: “This memorable event is part of the continuing development of our school. The new classroom block provides our children with a fantastic learning environment and it is a wonderful addition to the school.”
‘Vitally important’
Roger Gough, Kent County Council Cabinet Member for Education, added: “This expansion will provide 30 extra school places per year group for the local area, which are very much–needed. It takes the admission numbers from 60 to 90 each year. Eventually the school will have a capacity to take 630 pupils in total.
“These extra places are vitally important to those families living close by who would have to travel further to school without them. With plans to build more housing in Birchington and Minnis Bay we hope this larger school will meet the needs of the local growing population.
“We know that the school will maintain the high standards of education and caring ethos that it is known for locally and within Kent County Council.”
After the opening ceremony, there will be a tour of the new building followed by refreshments.
