Enquiries continue after car crashes into wall in Beacon Road

The car hit a fence and a wall in Beacon Road

Police say enquiries are ongoing after a car was crashed into a fence and a wall in Broadstairs at the weekend.

The car, a ’24 plate VW, collided with a wall in Beacon Road at 3.20am. The occupants left the scene but the registered owner has since been identified.

Cllr Jenny Matterface, who lives opposite the crash site, said: “We got woken up by the most horrendous noise at 3.25am. It sounded like an explosion.

“I dashed outside expecting there would be fatalities. The police were on the scene very quickly and took statements from some of us outside.”

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police attended following a report that a car had collided with a wall in Beacon Road, Broadstairs shortly before 3.30am on Sunday 11 August.

“The driver of the vehicle was not at the scene when officers attended but the registered owner has since been identified and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.”

The crash comes just days after a Mini smashed into a property in Fairfield Road on August 8 and reported collisions in Callis Court Road and Reading Street.

Broadstairs & St. Peter’s Town Council is organising a multi-agency action meeting to discuss traffic issues which residents have been raising concerns about.

The meeting aims to put a spotlight on dangerous areas that need changes.

Residents are urged to attend the drop in sessions between 11am-1pm and 2pm-6pm in the Council Chamber, Pierremont Hall, CT10 1JX on Tuesday 27th August.

Town and county councillors, town council officers, Kent Police and other traffic related organisations will attend.

  1. As all these incidents are in the Beacon Road area and the local residents are asking for action to be taken, surely it makes sense to attend a meeting locally (St Andrew’s church hall?) so that more views can be addressed rather than having to go to the council offices in Margate !!

  2. It’s not so much areas it’s so many. People not all there driving is horrendous I live in a cul-de-sac of 21 properties and 6 of the driver’s should not hold a license for the way they drive in and out of the road and driveways and one who lives in Ramsgate but visits his mum daily who is the worst I’ve seen trouble is I can’t see his regestration as its so dirty and without it no one does anything online this week alone 3 people have had near miss issues and other drivers have just laughed and hand gestured. Driving in thanet is worse than anything jive experienced when driving in London or any motorway honestly I’m glad I stopped driving now.

  3. More Police patrolling at night especially in area where there have been a number of incidents like this, it’s either drunk driving or drivers high on drugs, if you donr gave a deterant it will just get worse, if you get caught you should be banned for life not just a slap on the wrist.
