Kent Police ready to deal with county protests in wake of Southport stabbings

Kent Police says officers are ready to deal with any far right disorder that may be planned in the county today (August 7).

A leaked list of 38 target areas includes began in Southport where three children were killed, and 10 other people – eight of whom were children – were injured by stabbing at a Taylor Swift themed holiday camp.

Cardiff-born Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, 17, has been charged and remanded in custody.

Target areas include three in Kent, but Thanet is not listed.

The violence which has spread across the country began in Southport where three children were killed, and 10 other people – eight of whom were children – were injured by stabbing at a Taylor Swift themed holiday camp.

But incorrect claims that the suspect was an asylum seeker fuelled disorder in Southport and then London, Manchester, Liverpool, Hartlepool, Sunderland, Rotherham and Plymouth.

A Kent Police statement says: “Kent Police is aware of the potential for protests at locations in the county today (Wednesday 7 August) and will respond swiftly and robustly to any incidents of disorder that arise.

“The force is continuing to monitor all available information and has sufficient resources in place to respond whilst continuing with the daily business of keeping people safe and preventing and detecting crime.

“This week officers are also engaging with communities to provide ongoing reassurance and increased visibility.”

Labour councillors at Thanet council have also issued a statement, saying: “In the week of Margate Pride and with pockets of race-related violent disorder taking place around the country, fuelled by disinformation, we take this opportunity to reaffirm that we stand against hate and alongside anyone in Thanet who is feeling anxious or threatened because of their race, faith, cultural background, gender, sexuality or disability.

“Diversity strengthens our community, while division can only weaken it. As your elected representatives, we are here to help and support you if you need us.”

    • Yep, lots of frustrations and grievances being vented, stockport, leeds, whitechapel, gillingham, manchester, small boats all being used to distort things, it is long past the time that policy and the reasons for it is explained and how we can all expect to be given opportunity to improve our lot. Hopefully things will calm down soon and there’s nothing else to ignite the powder keg.

      • There is no powder keg, only a terrorist laying or lying on his sunbed, and a gaggle of very stupid politicians seeking to gain something from the murder of 3 innocent girls at a dance class.
There are legitimate grievances that should be heard from the left behind in our society, but racism, and rioting with murderous intent is not the way to resolve social injustice.
All they are doing is frightening the middle classes and provoking an authoritarian response from the forces of law and order.

          • Quite right Paul, all we have to do is re-join the EU, and the small boats will disappear overnight, you numpty!

          • Which part of stopping the boats, means your peers get to barricade a migrant hotel housing men women and children and attempting to burn those people alive?

        • We have a problem with a lack of integration ( both ways) and having let so many into the country there’s been no need for many recent arrivals to do so as they can live in areas predominantly populated by people from the same background add in marriages from home areas and you end up with to paraphrase( iirc) baroness Varsi a cycle of new arrivals and no willingness to integrate.

Add to that the way in which the right and good will label whole sections of society because of the actions of the few , but refuse to do so for other sections. Then we have the practice of not publicising some crimes under the guise of not wanting to stigmatise a community. Today we had someone imprisoned for burning a 32k police van , but i’ve heard nothing about any prosecutions for burning a bus in leeds ( probably 200k plus) in a disturbance resulting from the authorities acting on concerns for the safety of children.

On the surface that can be seen as the much vaunted “two tier policing” , the devil will be in the detail, but that emerges far too late in too many cases.

We had the story about government funding for 3/4 bed homes at Westwood cross to house families of Afghan interpreters who’d assisted our armed forces, all well and good in that it fullfills promises made, but if you’re struggling with your own housing and a larger family you might well see things differently.

My first “job” was as a paperboy, the shop run by a refugee escaping the Iranian revolution a nicer person you couldn’t wish to meet, ran the shop by day drove a black cab at night, eternally grateful for the opportunities the UK gave him.
He sold to an asian family, you couldn’t find people more different, sacked myself and the evening round boy to put their relative in the 2 jobs instead. Alienated the locals witheir pricing and general attitude.
All this shows is that not all people are the same , differentiating good people from bad is something we all do, in my experience the colour of someone’s skin, heritage or religion has very little to do with it.
There are wronguns in every community, the things they do should be reported for all no matter who they are and records kept, until such time this happens and is easily accessed it’ll be all too easy to whip up discontent.
Work has taken me far and wide, the societal norms and attitudes in some places are interesting to say the least and they won’t be easily changed in a new country with differing norms.

    • These people are not “Far Right” they are yobbo’s, miscreants, and no hopers, using riots to loot shops from hard working mostly South Asian descended families! These No Hopers, have no future except low paid menial jobs, which is why they are attacking people who are hard working, and who have a future! The People United will never be defeated!

      • “These people are not “Far Right””

Except all these riots have been organised on far right telegram channels (patriotic alt/white knights rise up/uk infidels against islam etc) that are populated by neo nazis and white supremacist accelerationists.

Why you’d want to obfuscate the objective reality of the situation, I don’t know…

    • Yes, they do.
      What a stupid question.
I see that Farage I’d busy stoking this new bit of nonsense.

      • Phylis in the early 2000’s in thanet the officers on the beat were encouraged to not arrest any of the then refugees/asylum seekers that had been placed in thanet or any other migrant, this was because the first thing they did was ask for an interpreter and the chances of the cps pressing charges was unlikely, the costs and time wasted meant that little was getting done , but as a result to stop any complaints from the rest of thanets ne’er do wells it meant that lots of people got away with petty crime for fear of complaints about who was arrested or not. So only the serious crimes were properly investigated and prosecuted if deemed necessary.
Of course another benefit was that there was less recorded crime and fewer prosecutions. At the time there were more than a few knife incidents and effectively a turf war over the scrap in the skip that was behind Thornton Bobby’s.
Northdown road was for a while a bit menacing. So its not so much any one group not being policed but that standards as a whole are relaxed for all.
You’ve only to look at the state of some of the cars on our local roads and the standard of driving that is seen all too often , to perhaps think the same lowering of standards is still ongoing. Or the attitudes towards shoplifting .

        • I’d love to see the internal documents from the police force that dictated this policy. You can provide them, right? You wouldn’t just be making this about you and your supposedly special knowledge you’ve invented to satisfy a sense of bigotry, would you?

  1. Hundreds of these ‘right-wing’ thugs voted Labour. And have the same opinion of the Tories as Carol Vorderman, Angela Rayner and John Snow.

    • I’m not sure what your point is, but regardless of how any of these people voted (and I would love to see your working on these insights), it strikes me that burning down hotels that are being used to house immigrants is an inherently far-right action.

      • The real irony here is that Labour have a massive majority in a Parliament that will not have the opportunity to scrutinise his actions by decree for 3 months. Even though a far greater number of the electorate voted for right of centre parties. I have no complaints about that, it is our electoral system.
However, the majority of posters here appear to be under the impression that the majority of the British population hold views similar to theirs. Which the voter numbers clearly disproves.
I have no problem with either Equality or Diversity. As the former Chair of the Thanet Amnesty group I went into schools 35 years ago to talk about human rights. 20 years ago as a civil servant I helped promote the then relatively new idea of diversity within staff networks.
Unfortunately, since then an ever lengthening, varsity powered social sciences gravy train has inverted everything. The concept of “protected characteristics” enshrined within the Equality Act has systematically destroyed equality, in favour of equity.
It is hardly surprising that people who have done the right thing for their families, communities and country throughout their lives who perceive that their rights are being ignored by an Establishment and their media disinforming the population by telling partial truths feel a little unhappy. None of which justifies physical violence or the destruction of property. Like that undertaken a few evenings ago by a group of Muslim youths at a pub with children inside in Birmingham that was never shown by the mainstream media. Don’t believe me? Google it and watch the video.

Name Calling’s not very nice from either side of the street. I choose not to participate.

  2. It’s all so sad.
Men and women who abuse or kill vulnerable people are the bane of human existence.
I hope everyone stays safe and that people are not misidentified as vulnerable or as a threat.

    • You think its sad? Members of the party you align with, Reform, are on X at the moment and the week previous, stoking the flames of this…Farage, Tice, et al. Not to mention your voters doing the same on twitter/facebook.

      • You really are a drama queen.
        “… stoking the flames…”🙄
Is everyone who doesn’t agree with you an intellectual gimp who needs someone to tell them what to do? The Law says otherwise.
The problems are caused by the endless abuse of the Equality Act “protected characteristics” Regulations with cases brought under spurious pretexts by niche practice lawyers. It has produced a febrile atmosphere where people feel like aliens in the country of their birth.
If you don’t feel like that, great. I’m glad. Others feel differently. We are all entitled to express our feelings. Hate is merely the obverse of Love. The inability to express it in words has inevitably resulted in its physical expression.

  3. I support Keir Starmer’s response: proportionate to the violence, supporting our Police. So far this is Riot (Public Order Act).If it goes further then its Insurrection. We must defend our democracy. If even the Police cannot cope, declare a State of Emergency and bring in the Army, with non-lethal weapons. Track down the instigators abroad , issue warrants and extradite them – whoever they are, even if a billionaire. The Speaker of the House of Commons should declare when a statement is hateful and illegal, beyon parliamentary privilege, and call for suspension. We all know who.

    • Your comment as regards parliamentary privilege shows your total ignorance, still what can one expect from a card carrying member of the Labour Party residing in an upmarket and exclusive area of Broadstairs

    • If you’re talking about the French guy from Beckenham, he only has parliamentary privilege when he’s physically inside parliament.

  4. Farage should be jailed. He is a terrorist supporter all the time there is up evil he loves to boast about how he will deal with it, knowing dam well it’s not him who has to deal with it it’s the police and newly elected government. Farage is evil he has caused so much unrest over many years his party should be called retired instead of reforme.

    • YES I FULLY AGREE WITH U ABOUT FARAGE-BREXIT WAS A SCAM-AND BEING DONALD TRUMPS CLOSE FRIEND,WHO WANTS HIM BACK IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

      • Bill is correct about Farage, who is a mischief-maker in the highest degree, rather like Donald Trump.

      • Farage is a clowns clown. Those who believe his lies are the basest level of useful idiot for malign, hostile nation states policies. The guy’s continually praised an indicted child rapist (source – https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/4154484/katie-johnson-v-donald-j-trump/) and confirmed judicially rapist Trump…and authoritarian kleptocrat, Putin. I mean, there’s a reason Coutts dropped him and most politicians think he’s an absolute untrustworthy scumbag.

But go off, I suppose he tells you EXACTLY what you want to hear. (stop the boats et al).

    • There are 3 but I’m not advertising locations which could potentially attract more people to attend. None are expected in Thanet

    • They’d only end up falling out over which of the jam or cream goes on first, then you’ll get the extremists from the lactose intolerant, gluten free crowd and vegan factions creating further problems. Could all get very sticky. Best avoided.

    • But then you’d have arguments over wether its cream or jam on first, then divisions from those who are lactose intolerant, can’t eat gluten or vegan, it’d all end up a very messy bun fight.

  5. If only all these local protests got together and made a trip to London and went to government buildings instead. Get the Islamic mob involved and be on the same side as each other, that will give Sir “two-tier Keir” a conundrum about what to say next.

As it is, division suits the government very nicely.

  6. Professor Checkers has raised an interesting point there, suggesting we all solve our differences over tea and scones. Right whingers such as Farridge (us proper fannit types pronounce garage as garridge, so he’s Farridge to me) keep banging on about British values, without ever explaining what they are. I’m an old white pensioner, born of generations of local (originally West Country) fisher folk. My dad was in the Navy during the war, on a ship covering the D-Day landings. My grandad and an uncle had earlier used their fishing smacks, under fire, to help evacuate our boys at Dunkirk. And the British values instilled in me are kindness, respect, tolerance, support for the underdog, and to stand up to bullies. A cup of tea, green, Earl Grey, or metaphorical, to calm things down sits well with me.
Sadly, some of my countrymen, the bunch of tattooed, shaven headed thugs currently rampaging around the country (presently encouraged, or at least excused by wealthy grifters, Reform, and our awful right wing media over many years, still shamefully if awkwardly condoning it all now) wrapped in their St George’s flag football shirts, purporting to be patriotic, wouldn’t know any such value if it bit them on their sweaty bottoms, any more than they could name any major figure from our history other than maybe Churchill (no disrespect to Winston meant from me).
So I fear the offer of a chat over tea and scones would be rammed down our throats as they rush by to patriotically throw stones at the police, try to set fire to immigrants in their hostels, torch libraries, community centres and mosques, and while they’re at it loot some sausage rolls and trainers from the local shopping centre. I’m hoping good, and law and order will prevail. Mr Farridge and Co. will have a lot to answer for if we do end up fighting each other for years to come.

    • I refuse to pay him the compliment of anglicising his name. So will always pronounce it so it rhymes with ‘large’.

    • I rather think the offer of tea would be rejected, it being a foreign drink.
The EDL footsoldiers would prefer a proper English drink, like lager.
      Erm ….

  7. Considering the lengthy comments on here, I seriously wonder if GP’s are freely prescribing amphetamines again?

    • If your first response is to attack the purported good character of people you don’t know (thus cannot claim to know the drug choices of) by projecting your drugs of choice on to them because they’re holding Farage to account…well I’d probably apply a bit of self reflection and ask yourself if you’re engaging in cult like behaviour, bud.

      • Sad little man. Amazing that people can have a different point of view, but some people can’t handle that I guess.

  8. As John Lennon said, “Make Love, Not War” (he also said “I am the walrus, goo-goo-goo-job”, but we’ll ignore that!). Seriously folks, greet everyone with a friendly smile. Better still, get chatting to people from different cultures, you may learn a thing or three. There are lovely people from everywhere. Evil is a rarity in all religions and cultures. Have a great day, and love to all!

    • ‘Nigel Farage has said he would, “don khaki, pick up a rifle and head for the front lines” if Theresa May fails to deliver Brexit in the fashion he wants’ [Independent newspaper]

      • “I no longer listen to what people say, but watch what they do, because behaviour never lies.” Winston Churchill.

        Good advice. Especially presently.

  9. Rishisunak really did play a blinder calling a July election. Just before the Parliamentary summer recess. He knew Labour would win. He also knew that 3 months without Parliamentary scrutiny would be sufficient time for Starmer to show his authoritarian, tyrannical side. As it happens it took less than a month!😂
What happened on Wednesday was an incredibly expensive Establishment hoax. A police readiness test that cost taxpayers vast amounts of cash. Think about it! Who demonstrates, let alone riots on a Wednesday evening? Let alone in 100 different locations? I’m sure the Public Accounts Committee @CommonsPAC will have some difficult questions to ask of the Prime Minister. Not just about the initial cost, but about any contracts he may have signed with the likes of G4S, Serco or Aegis to provide auxiliary police services.
Interestingly, it also presented the opportunity to discover those within The Left – like Dartford Councillor Jones and his female Amnesty fan – who may be liabilities.

It’s going to be an interesting 5 years.😂😂😂

  10. What do you mean by “What happened on Wednesday was an incredibly expensive Establishment hoax”? A lot of things happened on Wednesday- what are you referring to?

    • The subject matter of the article upon which we have all been commenting. The entire, “…. There are going to be demonstrations…” was a lie from start to finish.

      • Intelligence collated by the Authorities suggested that on Wed last there would be a concerted drive to attack institutions and individuals associated with giving legal advice to assylseekers and so on.
The police drew up a strategy that involved strategic positioning of 1000s of riot trained troops around the country.
Meanwhile, the first criminals associated with last week’s events were put on trial, and banged up for 2 – 3 years. In addition, 1000s of anti-riot folk gathered in town centres.
Unsurprisingly, there were vanishingly small reports of trouble.

        • “Intelligence collated by the authorities…”.
Rubbish! Every day chaff highlighted in order to justify a massively expensive vanity exercise.

      • No, it is information for people who were worried to let them know that a) Police were ready to deal with ‘any far right disorder that may be planned in the county’ and b) there was no indication that Thanet would be affected. That is not stoking misinformation, it is helping to allay fears when the probability of something affecting Thanet folk was small

  11. I think Harry Webb misread the article. His phrase “incredibly expensive Establishment hoax” sounds like something out of a conspiracy theorist’s article. Not that I read any of those- but it’s obvious that some people who comment on IoTN do.
