It is understood that some 30 acres of wheat were destroyed. To try and limit damage the farmer cut a fire break through the wheat as firefighters tackled the blaze.

The fire follows a similar blaze yesterday (August 5) in Ramsgate when crews were called to a field of standing corn alight in Newlands Road

Two fire engines attended that incident at 6.16pm and crews extinguished the flames.

There were no reported injuries, and the cause is not known.

    • Correct.

The Government’s new planning laws allow for development of grrey sites – and that is exactly what we have here.

We continue to welcome more people into the country and therefore we are duty bound to build more houses to accommodate them.

  1. Hold the conspiracy theories, chaps. It could just be a crop fire, caused by a fag end chucked from a car or something. It’s a field, not a funfair or amusement arcade in the way of a development. If someone is intending to build on that land, they will have to purchase it and go through the planning process. A few charred stubs of corn right now will make no difference, and there was no need for any developer to set fire to a field of wheat a few days before harvest.

  2. U are wrong, perfict, u snowflake. Their is a glowball conspiricy to burn down cornfeelds so they can bild housis for peedofile immigrunts. I red it on twatter. Soz, X. No thats not a kiss.

  3. or it could be caused by pieces of glass getting extremely hot and caused the fire or did you not know that glass can actually cause fires you can’t blame everything on the government or TDC I understand they are wanting to build more houses because we need them personally I can’t see why they don’t build on danevalley by the allotments all that is used for is dogs walking and pooping and not always being picked up that would be an ideal place tho build just saying or was that down to TDC and the government when that got set alight no I don’t think so that was caused by broken glass getting extremely hot

  4. Farmers regularly used to burn the stubbles to provide a trash free environment for the following crop to be established. This has nothing to do with preparing it for development and everything to do with a stubble fire (accident or arson) pushed along by a Southerly wind into a standing crop of oats.
