St Laurence Junior Academy children head to Times Table World Cup final

St Laurence Junior Academy’s Year 4 children took part in a Times Table World Cup run by Emile Education Games and emerged victorious in the first round, beating 10 other schools to first place. This week, the children are taking part in the National Final, competing against 39 other schools.

Zayn in Botany Bay class said, “It was fun because we won and we get to go into the National Final”.

The Times Table World Cup is a competition that challenges primary school children to showcase their times table skills. It aims to engage children and make maths fun while improving their mental arithmetic. The competition is based on the World Cup football tournament, with teams competing in groups and progressing through knockout stages until the final.

Mrs Mountjoy, Phase lead, said: “I am so proud of the children. They have worked incredibly hard to reach this stage of the competition.”

The St Laurence Junior Academy’s Year 4 team displayed excellent teamwork and commitment in the first round of the competition, securing their spot in the National Final. The children were thrilled to have won the first round and were looking forward to representing their school in the next stage of the competition.

Mrs Buckland, Deputy Head Teacher and Math Lead said, “We are so proud of our children. The pupils excelled themselves throughout the competition. Not only did they engage in some friendly competition but there were also some clear improvements in their recall and speed as time went on.”

The National Final promises to be an exciting event, with St Laurence Junior Academy’s Year 4 team competing against 39 other schools. The children are excited about the competition and are looking forward to showcasing their times table skills on a national stage.
