Margate RNLI and Margate Coastguard were called into action yesterday (January 15) after two people were cut off by the tide at Kingsgate.

The B class lifeboat was launched around 2pm after UK Coastguard received reports of two people in trouble.

The lifeboat arrived on scene and located the couple but crew were unable to get close  due to the state of the tide.

Margate Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked and their officers waded round to check on the casualties welfare while waiting for the lifeboat to extract them.

Thé pair were recovered onto the lifeboat and returned to the lifeboat station where they were given a warm drink and dry towels.

The Lifeboat Operations Manager took them back to their vehicle at Botany Bay.

Margate RNLI said: “They were very grateful for the assistance they had received and said they had learned a valuable lesson on the day.”
