Passengers stuck on train between Canterbury West and Ramsgate due to electrical fault

No trains are currently running between Canterbury West and Ramsgate due to a electrical supply failure at Sturry – and passengers on one train which is unable to move have been stuck since 6pm.

A Southeastern tweet says: “We currently have a power supply problem on the track so unable to move trains at the moment in time.

“Engineers are on site and looking to fix asap.”

In response one passenger replied: “I’m currently trapped on a train between Canterbury West and Ramsgate – we’ve been sat still for nearly an hour…. engineers were meant to be here over 20 minutes ago… please give us a proper update as there are many children and pets trapped on this service!”

Passengers are now due to be evacuated from the train, which has also been without heating, after attempts by Network Rail to get it moving failed.

The supply fault means where possible, services which run between Ashford and Ramsgate via Canterbury West will divert via Dover Priory. Trains are being delayed and may be cancelled.

Tickets for travel are valid on Stagecoach bus routes:

Triangle – between Canterbury, Sturry, Herne Bay, Chestfield and Whitstable

8 – between Margate, Westgate, Birchington, Sturry and Canterbury

UPDATE: The issue was fixed during the early hours of November 25.

  2. I was once on a train that ground to a halt for ages.
I asked the guard if I could jump out and pick some flowers.
