Broadstairs Food Festival

The Broadstairs Food Festival returns on the town’s Victoria Gardens and promenade.

Food and drink enthusiasts and festival lovers can look forward to more than 100 exhibitors including produce, Kent wine and spirits and kitchenalia; hot food stalls and a bar and cider house, at the event from September 30 to October 2.

The festival runs from 10am-6pm on the Friday and Saturday and 10am to 5pm on the Sunday.

Roundabout at Newington

Paines Plough “Roundabout” circular theatre is back in Newington.

The award-winning, pop-up venue is premiering three new plays direct from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, alongside a packed programme of locally produced shows, activities, food and fun.

Viking Bay Classic

October 1

The Viking Bay Classic is part of the GBSUP National and the South East Regional Series, run in partnership with Kent Surf School and is a GBSUP National Series Sanctioned Event

The event sees the South East Regional Series finish with a Hybrid-Tech race along the stunning Thanet coastline. Paddlers will start from the bay and race out to sea before turning along the coast and back into the bay to start their next lap.

Elsewhere turns 4

October 1, Elsewhere, The Centre, Margate

Elsewhere is turning 4 years old and is inviting people to celebrate by joining a day and night of live music and DJs.

The line up features the best of the best of talent from the Margate scene; with live music (7pm-10pm) from Falle Nioke, Clementine Blue and James Jordan-Johnson.

Followed by late night DJs (10pm-2am) Paul Camo from Margate Radio and NTS, as well as Femme Fiesta’s JAW-G and KATYA B2B.

There will also be an assortment of live music in the daytime (1pm-4:30pm) in the form of RecorderMania, as well as, Trestle Records curated ‘One Day Band’ consisting of Adam Coney, Francesca Ter-Berg and Jimi Tormey.

Join Richard Hubbard to explore the geology, fossils, spectacular coastal erosion and history

A chance to join Richard Hubbard on a walk to explore the geology, fossils, spectacular coastal erosion and history of the Kingsgate coastline, Broadstairs.

Take a step back in time as we uncover the secrets of this beautiful and important coastal landscape. The walk is based on Richard’s new book and will involve a walk and talk along the cliff top and beach.

These walks are suitable for adults (& over 11 years of age) and involve walking on the beach and rocky chalk shore.

Pony Pampering Session

October 1, 10.30am, The Watering Hole Cafe at Quex Park

Enjoy a  75 minute experience with miniature Shetland ponies, Maggie and Jess.
You will get to learn about keeping a pony, how to care for them, what they eat, how to groom them and then get to take them for a walk. Please note this is a non-riding experience.

The ticket price includes accompanying adult, but this a children only experience adults are welcome to spectate and take lots of photographs!

This experience is available on Saturdays at 10:30 and available everyday to book in October half-term.

Sparkles Charity Show and Raffle

Sparkles Bellydance is having its annual charity with a variety of acts on October 1, at The Centre, Birchington from 7pm.
Desert Roses, Serpent sisters, Ruthless, Egyptian Queen, Hasina Aziza, Cosmic Shimmy, Jelly Bellies, Purple Haz, Carribean Queen and many many more! Also performing are guests Ash Mukherjee, Farasha, Ameera, Good Karma Ladies, Ann Hall and singer Molly.

Star Trek convention

The Star Trek Enterprise docks at the Oak Hotel on Ramsgate Harbour tonight (October 1) and will be collecting for the Oasis Domestic Abuse Service charity. Collection pots will be on the tables. There will also be an auction.

The Riker-Con 2 event is a Star Trek fan convention organised by charity arm USS Riker’s Beard.

At the event Trekkies will be able to get a photo on the Bridge in Captain Kirk’s famous chair or be beamed up in the transporter room.

The event starts at 7pm and is free to enter.

Sir Moses Montefiore talk

Explore Ramsgate’s 19th century connections with the Jewish philanthropist and activist Sir Moses Montefiore a man who became a legend during his lifetime. Sir Moses left a legacy which continues to benefit communities worldwide

DATE AND TIME: Sunday 2nd October 2022, 2.30pm.

MEETING POINT: Albion Place Gardens, Ramsgate CT11 8HQ.

ENTRANCE: Members £5.00. Non-members £10.00. Proceeds to go to RMH funds.

TOUR LEADER: Sandra Silva, RMH Committee Member and Blue Badge Guide who is offering her services free of charge.

The tour which is weather dependent will take about 2.5 hours. It will follow a more linear route omitting the strenuous Victoria Road hill, walking along East Cliff at a gentle pace to the Plains of Waterloo where the contract was signed to build the famous Jerusalem Alms Houses. The tour will then continue through part of the Lady Augusta Albion Estate. Lady Augusta’s husband the Duke of Sussex was a close friend of Sir Moses. The route will stop at other points and then continue towards George Vl Park terminating at the Montefiore Synagogue.

Participants should wear comfortable footwear and consider bringing something to drink in case of thirst.

Ellington Park ‘What is a Tree’ Walk

October 2, 2pm, Ellington Park

Ellington Park was originally set out by Joseph Cheal & Sons, in 1839. Over recent years, this historic park has undergone extensive renovations and has been brought back to its former glory with a new cafe, a revived bandstand, enhanced wildlife area and many new trees. Take a walk with and discover what these trees mean to so many people that use this park.

Thanet Colour Run

With an explosion of colour, the family-friendly 5k colourful colour run event comes to Palm Bay Green (Palm Bay Avenue) on Sunday, October 2.

Each year this popular event brings fun and laughter to fundraising for Pilgrims Hospices, and awareness of how important it is to support the local charity in its continued end-of-life care within the community.

  • 9am – 11am: Registration will be open
  • 11.30am – 1.30pm: Thanet 5k Colour Run takes place

The circular 5k route starts and ends at Palm Bay Green.
