Thanet Pro Wrestling academy to launch in Ramsgate

A pro wrestling academy will open in Ramsgate this November.

Thanet Pro Wrestling is a venture by friends Weston Hughes, Jamie Hill, Chris Care and Stewart Pears which will launch at the Royal Harbour Academy. The four had planned to  open the academy before the covid pandemic hit but then had to put the idea on hold.

Now they are ready for the launch of Thanet’s first dedicated pro wrestling training facility in partnership with the school.

It will feature training, premium shows and an  after school club with plans for 17+ sessions and a younger children’s club to follow.

Weston said: ”Thanet Pro Wrestling is here to give the youth a sense of direction, develop and build confidence, improve mental health and so much more.

“We aim to provide a safe learning environment for everyone who walks through our doors. We envision bringing together community spirit and truly turning this into something amazing. We want to see this flourish purely out of our passion for professional wrestling. We want to show that wrestling can be for everyone.

“This has never been done before, we are Thanet’s first dedicated training facility collaborating with Royal Harbour Academy.

“It has been our dream since kids to run a wrestling company. TPW was in the pipeline pre-pandemic but we couldn’t launch for obvious reasons. We now feel the time is right and, with the current climate, there is a huge demand for professional wrestling in the UK.”

The four, who have decades of experience between them and are DBS checked, aim to nurture home-grown talent but also to bring in some WWE stars for the launch.

Weston added: “We want to build a solid foundation and shape the next generation of wrestlers, creating hometown stars. We aim to put on premium shows every few months with ongoing storylines and will be offering an after-school club called ‘Rising Stars’ exclusively for pupils at the Royal Harbour Academy.

“We then hope to extend this further by doing a Kids Club for a younger bracket and following this, we are having a 17+ Training Academy.

“We are really excited to be on this journey”

Thanet Pro Wrestling will hold an open day at Royal Harbour Academy on November 27, times to be confirmed.
