Ramsgate Blitz Walks have sadly come to an end.

The walks led by resident Bob Pryor have been running in the town for 22 years but poor health has now forced Bob to end the event.

The walks took visitors on a tour of the town which was one those most heavily bombed during World War Two.

Bob took participants on a journey through those years.

Bob said: “Having studied Ramsgate’s war for over 50 years, and having listened to the stories of my father – a Ramsgate wartime fireman- and his friends, it put me in a unique position to pass this on to future generations.”

Sadly, health issues mean Bob has been under a specialist since October for a problem which has worsened and is affecting his speech.

He said: “Sadly, it is the end of the Blitz walks. I have a problem affecting my speech which is a long-term thing.

“After 22 years it’s time to end the walks. It’s not fair to have to keep cancelling  and letting people down.”

  1. It is a shame that Bob does not have someone to whom he can pass the baton. Perhaps there’s a book in the offing? So many people would enjoy reading his words.
Wishing you well in your retirement, Bob.

  2. Ramsgate history is rich and especially around the Wellington Crescent area.

Grew up around there and explored the area and found some nice hidden places to discover.

Everyone should be caught at school their local history and especially at Junior school.

Walk along with your head looking up and around to find things youd never expect to see.

Just a shame the only area of the tunnel system they show is probably the most boring part though.

The most interesting one is now blocked up behind the white elephant complex

  3. I went on one of your three walks a few years ago Bob and thoroughly enjoyed it.Was hoping to complete the 3 but sad we can’t make it happen.
So interesting to hear the small details.Hope you stay comfortable.
