Ramsgate carnival

Ramsgate carnival returns with the parade, funfair and stalls at Government Acre.

The carnival takes place on Sunday, July 31, moving off at 4pm. The fair will be on Government Acre on both Saturday until 6.30pm and Sunday from 11am. There will also be stalls on Sunday.

The route is the same as usual, starting at Royal Esplanade and travelling through Paragon, Royal and Harbour Parade, Plains of Waterloo, King and Queen Streets, Westcliff Road, Grange Road and back to Royal Esplanade.

Prizes will be awarded in a number of categories including best dressed pedestrian group, best youth group, best commercial float and more.

Pop-Up Market at Ramsgate Boating Pool

Molly Pickles and local makers, creatives and curators stage a one-day only market at the Ramsgate Boating Pool on Saturday, July 30, 10am until 4pm.

Gadgeteer Gravitram Workshop

Saturday, July 30, Broadstairs Library on The Broadway from 10.30am to noon.

To celebrate the Summer Reading Challenge a Gadgeteer Gravitram Workshop will be held. Youngsters can construct Rolling Ball Sculptures from recycled materials!This event is suitable for children aged 4 to 11 years old. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Thanet Chamber Concert with the “Off the Wall” Ensemble

Saturday, July 30, Ramsgate Salvation Army at 167 High Street, 3pm

An unusual concert by a new group from London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The highlight will be a ‘centenary’ performance of the rediscovered Piano Quartet by Alfred Wall, who has strong links with Thanet. This romantic work was one of the first Carnegie Award winners, but has not been heard in 100 years. It will be preceded by the ‘Phantasy’ piano quartet by Frank Bridge, from a similar period, and a modern single-movement quartet by Huw Watkins MBE.

This concert is in aid of the  Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.

Overground Underground tour at Ramsgate Tunnels

Saturday, July 30, 11.30am

A guided walk above and below ground, following the route of Ramsgate’s famous wartime Tunnels. Hidden entrances and features of interest above ground will be pointed out along the way, and below ground, you will follow in the footsteps of those who rushed for cover during the Second World War, descending into the Tunnels via an original public entrance.

The Tour starts outside The Sailors Church, Military Road, Royal Harbour, Ramsgate CT11 9LG at 11.30 am and finishes at the entrance to Ramsgate Tunnels, Marina Esplanade, CT11 8FH at approximately 2pm.
The tour lasts approximately 2.5 hours.

You will be required to climb multiple sets of stairs and descend a 2.5 metre secure steel ladder during the tour. Physical fitness and mobility is essential.

The tour is only suitable for those aged 12 and above. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.

Due to the lack of public toilets en-route, please utilise the seafront facilities prior to the start of the tour.

Make sure to dress for the prevailing weather conditions, the tour will continue if it is raining, and make sure to bring warm clothing for inside the Tunnels – it is a constant temperature of 11 c.
Wear comfortable footwear suitable for a walk of 2 miles (including the uneven tunnel floor).

A safety briefing will be given at the start of the tour where you will be issued with a hi-visibility vest.
You will be issued with hard hats and torches when you enter the Tunnels.

Pickled at Dreamland

Pickled Margate welcomes ‘Faith’s Terry Farley and Stuart Patterson to Dreamland for a 3 hour set, joined on the night by Derrick Patterson and the Lunar Sol guys on Saturday, July 30.

Terry Farley has produced some of house music’s most enduring cuts under various guises, including Roach Motel and Bocca Juniors, as well as with Pete Heller as Heller and Farley.

Stuart Patterson has been at the forefront of London’s cutting edge club scene for decades, while continuing to travel and play at the finest clubs across the UK and the globe.

Derrick Patterson, has been mixing since the 80s, first known on London Pirate radio station ‘D Faze1’ – Springboard for Fabio and Groove Rider, Mark Sinclair, Dave Angel and Booker T, to name but a few.

Lunar Sol, Kent based duo of Lee & Stevie have held residencies at Aaja, SE London, DJ sets at Retrofest, and every Friday can be found on Ibiza Underground Radio.

The Powell-Cotton Museum is offering a Summer Saver pass to allow one adult and up to two children aged under 16, to visit on all open weekends including the bank holiday, throughout the summer holidays.

Each pass will cost £10 so families will start saving from their second visit. Since re-opening at the new entrance price of £2.50 per person, the museum has seen a huge increase in repeat visits.

With a summer pass, visitors can attend all weekend open days, daytime events, and the August bank holiday Monday, until the 29th August. Passes can be purchased on arrival at the museum.

A weekend of re-using and re-imagining plastics in an underwater mobile making workshop at Turner Contemporary

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a single-use plastic found everywhere from fruit mesh bags to drink bottle tops. Unfortunately, these often end up in landfill or polluting our seas. We invite you to extend the life of these plastics by creating your very own Sea PET mobiles.

Isle of Thanet Cup

This Saturday sees the Blues welcome Ramsgate FC in the latest instalment of the Isle of Thanet Cup, with kick-off at Hartsdown Park at 3pm.

Supporters are able to purchase their tickets in advance by clicking here, or are able to purchase them on the turnstiles which open at 1:30pm.

Following the conclusion of the game, the 2022 Community Shield fixture between Liverpool and Manchester City will be shown on the screens in the Hartsdown Bar.

Explore Thanet’s chalk rocky shore for its fascinating rockpool wildlife. Join one of the series of safaris touring different Thanet Coast bays to explore the chalk reef and rockpools to see what shore life can find. These events are run with the help of Thanet Coast volunteers.

All events last for up to 2 hours and are suitable for ALL the family, but particularly 4-11s.

UEFA final screening

The UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 Final between England and Germany will be screened live at Dreamland on Sunday, July 31.

The Lionesses have stormed their way through the 16-team competition and , after a 4-0 victory over Sweden on Tuesday, they take on Germany for the cup.

The final will be screened at the Scenic Stage from 5pm-8.30pm.

Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult. Entry is free but places need to be booked.

Dreamland will be open all day as usual, with a selected line up of quieter rides available after 5pm.
