Tonight’s free firework event in Broadstairs has been cancelled for safety reasons.

Broadstairs Firework Events, which organises the displays, says shore winds a high tide and tinder dry shrubs mean there could be a risk of fire.

Tonight’s event was due to be held to close the town’s water gala.

In a message the events firm said: “Regrettably we will not be able to hold tonight’s Fireworks display as a result of forecasted direct on shore winds, coupled with a high tide restricting the beach firing area and tinder dry shrubs and grass along the clifftop.

“The fallout of ash from the display could blow directly on to the promenade with risk of injury and fire.

“Hyperactive 80’s band will still be performing on the bandstand from 8pm to 10.30pm. The funfair will run through to 10.30pm.”

The next firework night dates are August 17th, and August 24th.

  1. Understandable that the fireworks have been cancelled as safety must be paramount. Just a note that Thanet Male Voice Choir will be hosting their first Prom By The Sea since 2019 at the Pavilion, starting at 7.30pm. The concert is free to all but there will be a totally voluntary bucket collection for choir funds at the end

    • Hi Andy, I included the concert in the Water Gala article so hope you get a lovely audience

  2. Only an idiot would contemplate hosting a fireworks display when the Country is suffering from a lack of rain and heatwaves.
