Two people were arrested yesterday (July 24) by officers carrying out patrols on Margate seafront.

A teenager from Sheerness was arrested after a craft knife was found in his bag and a 20-year-old man from Herne Bay was taken into custody after a police officer was spat at.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police officers stopped a group of young people during patrols on Margate seafront on the afternoon of Sunday 24 July.

“A craft knife was found in a bag being carried by one of the group and a 17-year-old boy from the Sheerness area was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

“Later the same day, while on patrol in Marine Terrace, an officer was spat at. A 20-year-old man from the Herne Bay area was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and taken into custody.

“Officers will continue to carry out proactive patrols in the area to ensure the town remains a safe place to live, work and visit.”
