Smiths Court Hotel in Cliftonville targeted by burglars twice – with safe stolen

Police are investigating after a safe was stolen during a burglary at Smiths Court Hotel in Cliftonville.

The incident happened between 10.15pm and 10.45pm on Boxing Day (December 26).

Three men are reported to have entered Smiths Court Hotel in Eastern Esplanade before stealing the large industrial safe.

The incident followed a burglary on 24 December, when the hotel’s CCTV systems were targeted.

Crime scene investigators have visited the scene to gather forensic evidence and officers have made enquiries with nearby residents.

People are being asked to check their dashcam and residential CCTV for any footage that may assist detectives.

  1. I know this is a serious incident, and I do feel sorry for the owners, it’s actually amazing how they can walk out with an industrial safe.

    Surely you need some specialist knowledge here, and also how to eventually open it (possibly by cutting open).

    How do they know this safe is actually worth stealing, full of money/valuables, is there an insider on this job?

    • It certainly does beg the question as to how anybody can be in and out and remove a ”large industrial safe” within half an hour and yet not be seen or heard.

      Clearly it was either professionals or an inside job.

  2. How can someone walk out with a large safe? Sounds very dodgy. Who has had cash in this covid age in a safe. Hardly a busy hotel to target. The owner has been all over Facebook trying to rent rooms on long term.

  3. Maybe the thieves wanted a large industrial safe in its own right, rather than cash or valuables…
