The QEQM Hospital League of Friends and staff from the Rainbow children’s ward have once again hosted 300 or so of the members of the Whitstable Toy Run Association on their annual motorcycle run to deliver gifts for the patients on the ward.

The team provided the riders, who are from across East Kent including Thanet, with a welcome hot drink and refreshments after their arrival on Sunday (December 1).

Members of the association have been carrying out the annual run for more than 30 years.

Sadly this was the first time the late Marie Hepburn, from the QEQM friends, wasn’t there to welcome them with other volunteers operating the League of Friends’ tea bar. Marie passed away in August  following a crash in Broadstairs.

A minute’s silence was held in her memory led by the association’s members, who very movingly had provided a motorcycle escort at her funeral.

As well as delivering well some 500 presents the association’s members raised  £780, which they are donating to the hospital.

  1. Whilst this is absolutely wonderful, I have just read the article about the number of homeless children in Thanet this Christmas. Wouldn’t it be lovely if, as a community we could do something for them.

  2. ? This past by my window at seabathing, westbrook on Sunday, was a great sound and a lovely sight ?
Well done to all involved xx
