Westgate was bustling yesterday (December 1) as crowds turned out for the Christmas fair and light switch on.

Westgate couple Lorraine and Richard Hambidge were the town’s local heroes 2019 and flipped the switch on the Christmas lights. Despite a slight hiccup the town was soon twinkling.

Westgate resident Wilfred Jenkins also received a special award for his continuous help and shining example for people with additional needs. Wilfred, 22, was Santa’s Guardian during the event.

The event also featured a large Christmas street market, live entertainment on two stages all day, parade, funfair, grotto, food, drink and more.

It was organised by the Christmas Lights Committee and supported by the town council.
