Two teens due in court over Margate burglary and car theft

Arrested

Two teenagers have been charged in connection with a burglary and theft of a car in Margate.

The # break-in was reported at Tivoli Park Avenue, shortly after 12.30am on Sunday (November 3). A Vauxhall Astra was also reported stolen from the driveway of the same property.

Rio Duncan, 18, of Sandyhurst Lane, Ashford, was arrested in Coldharbour Lane, Barham, at about 2.10pm the same day.

He has since been charged with burglary, aggravated vehicle-taking, dangerous driving, and driving without insurance or a licence.

A 15-year-old boy from Margate was arrested at the same time as Mr Duncan and has been charged with allowing himself to be a passenger in a vehicle which he knew to have been taken without consent.

Both were due to appear before Margate magistrates today.

Kent Police is reminding residents to take simple crime prevention steps to keep their homes secure as part of its annual burglary awareness campaign.

Remember to…

Lock windows, side gates and garages;

Turn on burglar alarms;

Make sure your house is not the only one in the street left in darkness. Use timers for internal lighting, and arrange for people to visit the property while you are away;

Arrange for people to collect mail while you are away;

Put bins away so they cannot be used to climb on;

Be careful what you post online and on social media regarding valuables and your movements;

Do not leave packaging out on display by the bins – it advertises what burglars may find inside your home.
