Ramsgate’s Crafty Poppies group have adorned the Destiny memorial at Albion Gardens and the railings of St George’s Church with some 2,500 crocheted poppies.

The group, which has around a dozen active members, have been busy with the crochet hooks and knitting needles for this year’s Remembrance display.

The group preserved last year’s long drop of poppies, which had hung on the Madeira Walk waterfall, and have used them to adorn the church railings and gates.

Crafty Poppies member Jo Hanchett said: “Further poppies will be added during the week on the railings of the church to make a splendid display in readiness for the Armistice Service on Sunday (November 10).

“We would like to especially thank Michael Morgan for his ladderwork today, Brian Whitehead for his photographs and the Albion Gardens gardening team for cleaning and planting the area around Destiny for us.

“Trevor Shonk and his gardeners are preparing St George’s grounds for next weekend.”

The Ramsgate Remembrance Day Parade and Service will go through the town centre to St. George’s Church, Church Hill, parade from Elms Avenue at 10.35am, Service at 10.50am.

There will also be a service outside Timpsons shop in the centre of town, which includes hymns, a bugler, Vicar and a minute’s silence.
