Motorcyclist taken to hospital following Margate crash

Emergency services were called to a crash between a car and a motorcycle in Margate last night (August 13).

Police, fire and ambulance attended the scene in Ramsgate Road at around 7pm and the motorcyclist was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called to a two-vehicle collision in Ramsgate Road, Margate at around 7pm.

“Officers attended the scene, which involved a car and motorcyclist. The motorcyclist reported injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

“The road remained open.”

Fire crews were first to the scene with firefighters treating the rider and then passing him into the care of SECAmb. They also made the scene safe.

An ambulance service spokesman said the rider was taken to the William Harvey Hospital for treatment.

  1. Why was it deemed necessary to take this injured biker on an hour’s bumpy journey to Ashford when there is a perfectly good A&E not 2 minutes from the scene of the accident?
    Uncomfortable for the biker, an ambulance and it’s crew tied up for an extra 2 hours and the extra costs involved in that – wages and vehicle maintenance for starters.
    I for one would like to know the answer.

      • Very unlikely unless some facilities have recently been removed from the QEQM in offer to expedite its intended downgrading. It has for decades had a fully functioning and adequate A&E, except things like the burns unit at East Grinstead or brain units in London where treatment outside Thanet would be needed.
        This is winding down by stealth, I am convinced – just like the stroke unit.

      QEQM is treated as a third rate facility and is being run down by removing services critical to the people and saving money to spend on wealthier areas of Kent.
