Firework display at Broadstairs Water Gala WILL go ahead

Broadstairs Firework Events, which is run by volunteers, has announced that the firework display will take place on the evening of the water gala.

The firework display was thrown into doubt following an outbreak of trouble at an event earlier this month.

Daytime events at the annual gala on July 31, including the fair in Victoria Gardens, were already confirmed as still taking place but organsers said an action plan had to be formulated with Kent Police and Thanet council to make sure there would be adequate security for the evening so the fireworks could go ahead.

The event on July 24 was cancelled following the ruckus on Wednesday (July 17) where several brawls broke out during the evening.

Two teenage girls were arrested and a dispersal zone put in place immediately following the incidents.

The events team has now announced that support from volunteers, businesses and organisations has secured the gala fireworks.

A statement posted to social media says: “We are pleased to announce that following discussions with Kent Police,Thanet District Council, Broadstairs & St Peters Town Council, Town Chamber, Marc One Security, plus
a number of supportive local businesses and general public offering to volunteer as ” eyes on the ground ” stewards, we WILL be going ahead with live music on the bandstand at 8 pm and a fantastic firework display at 9.45 pm ( as always – subject to weather ).

“This increased security costs more so-if you’re coming along please pop a pound or two in the collection buckets to help us continue to offer these wonderful evenings in a happy, safe, family friendly environment in beautiful Broadstairs.”
