Margate’s RNLI inshore lifeboat was called out this morning (June 14) after UK Coastguard received a report of a person entering the water at Joss Bay attempting to rescue a dog that had swam out to sea.

The call was cancelled before the lifeboat launched when the coastguard received a further report that the person, along with a second person who also gone into the water to assist, and the dog had made their way back to shore safely.

The Coastguard Rescue Team was alerted to check on the welfare of those involved.

Peter Barker, Deputy Launching Authority, Margate Lifeboat said: “While it is understandable for people to attempt to rescue their dog if it swims out to sea we strongly urge them to stay ashore, keep the animal in sight and dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
