Two fire crews and Kent Police are currently at the scene in Broadstairs after a road and two properties were flooded by a burst water main.

Crews were called to Rumfields Road at 7.28am today (June 8) and remain at the scene.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service is working to pump water out two flooded properties in Rumfields Road, which has been caused by a burst water main.

“Two fire engines are on the scene. The road is also flooded, so please avoid the area while crews deal with the water and make the area safe. There are no reported injuries. “

A statement from Southern Water says: “We’re dealing with a major burst on our water main in the Broadstairs, CT10 area. We’re doing all we can to re-zone supplies while we work as quickly as possible on repairs but customers may experience low pressure or no water. Vulnerable customers on our priority service list will be supplied with bottled water. We would like to apologise to anyone affected by this.”

Fire crews stop time was 10.05am.

The Westwood Road  is currently closed eastbound from Northwood Road roundabout near  Westwood Cross. There is a diversion in place along along Northwood Road, Margate Road, Pysons Road, Fairfield Road and the Broadstairs Road.

  1. Hope everyone is okay. It was pretty bad last night the pavements in Broadstairs and roads were flooded I did not see any one out from KCC or TDC… Roads were treacherous at one point and people driving way to fast down Queens road Broadstairs

  2. So all the disruption and digging Thanet up Southern Water are doing has helped how?

They replaced all the drainage on Hereson Road to stop this and it was flooded yet again last night.

  3. any news as to when water supplies will get back to normal? very low pressure now in Broadstairs Road

  4. What I don’t understand is why, when Southern Water have flooded peoples homes and caused vast amounts of damage, the best help they can offer is to phone your insurance!

  5. I agree Tony, 100%. The lady on the other news respires about the same incident has been left with no help, also southern waters statement says ‘vulnerable customers are on their service priority list and are being supplied with bottles of water’ why are they not supplying every resident bottles of water. This is their fault and should be paying for any repairs and replacing anything water damaged! The amount of money they charge for water and they advise them to ring insurers! Absolute joke! Not everyone even has home insurance

    • I think it is the hight of irresponsibility not to have basic household insurance. You never know what might happen.
Never the less, you’d think a big organisation like Southern Water could be a bit more helpful.
