Blood stain leads to arrest and jailing of burglar from Margate

JAILED: Daniel Locke

A Margate burglar who left a blood stain at a property after he smashed his way through a bedroom window has been jailed for 27 months.

Daniel Locke, 19, from Jennifer Gardens appeared before Canterbury Crown Court on Tuesday, April 16 after pleading guilty to the burglary in Victoria Road, Kingsdown between December 28-29, 2017.

Officers were called to the property after a neighbour reported that a bedroom window had been smashed and Locke had entered every room of the house.  He took various items including silver ornaments and took two pillowcases to carry the items in.

Locke was arrested on January 26 after his DNA matched that of the blood stain on the drawer in the bedroom and was charged with burglary.

Investigating Officer Detective Constable Andrew Dale said: “Burglary can have such a detrimental impact on people’s lives.

“Not only did Locke violate the victim’s privacy, he caused significant damage to their property and stole items of sentimental value.

“I hope his sentence sends a message to other criminals and helps to act as a deterrent to those who may be considering this type of criminality.”
