Westbrook Tesco Metro store taped off by police and suspected arson arrest made following fire

Fire crews and police were called to Tesco Metro in Westbrook this morning (March 13).

The store was cordoned off by police while fire crews dealt with a fire inside the building. A 32-year old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of arson and currently remains in custody.

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called to a shop in Canterbury Road, Margate at 6.02am.

“On attendance, a fire was reported within the building and Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to assist. The road was closed for a short time while work to extinguish the fire was ongoing.”

    It is a Tesco Express (convenience) store. Cliftonville and Broadstairs are Metro’s, Manston is a Superstore and Westwood is an Extra
